Rye IPA Batch 6 White Wheat Base
For batch 6 I wanted to change the base malt and see what I would get. In this batch I replaced the 2-Row malt with White Wheat malt. I did make a brew day overview video just to show you how I make my small batches for testing you can check that out here.
For my fifth Rye IPA all grain batch I used the following recipe
2 LBS 1 oz White Wheat
5.5 oz White Wheat
5.5 oz Rye Malt
3.7 oz Flaked Rye
.28 oz Centennial @ 60 mins
.28 oz Centennial @ 5 mins
.28 oz Chinook @ 5 mins
US-05 Yeast was used
.24 oz Centennial Dry Hop 7 Days
.12 oz Chinook Dry Hop 7 Days
.12 oz Amarillo Dry Hop 7 Days
Tasting 1
Color: Orange red. Some haze
Smell: You get wheat. Spice and some citrus
Taste: Citrus with a hint of wheat. The citrus and bitterness take over this homebrew. You do get some spice and more wheat in the aftertaste. A little tart too.
Overall: No head on this one. Im starting to think Wheat malt doesn’t help with a head on a beer. Clean wheat citrus. Im getting something and Im not sure what it is. It could be grapefruit.
Tasting 2
Color: Light burnt orange. Clear
Smell: Wheat tart citrus
Taste: Wheat lemon citrus
Overall: Im not sure whats going on in this homebrew. Im not sure why Im getting a lemon citrus. Not one that I would make
