Centennial Hops with 100% Wheat
What do hops taste like with Wheat Malt? I do like a good wheat beer but I have not made a 100% wheat beer. When I fist started making 100% wheat beers I wanted to find a hop that had a good orange citrus smell and taste as I was thinking that would go well with wheat. Thinking about it a lemon citrus would be good too. So in this 100% Wheat homebrew we will try out Centennial. This will be a 1.25 gal batch. This is a wheat beer so I wanted to try and keep the IBUS under 25. Here is the recipe I used for this Homebrew:
2 LBS 4 oz White Wheat
.25 oz Centennial @ 10mins
.25 oz Centennial @ 5min
.25 oz Centennial @ 1min
.25 oz 3 days for dry hop
Finished ABV 5.94%
Color: Yellow Orange Hazy. It looks thick
Smell: Melon. Wheat grapefruit
Tasting: Smooth. You get some of that wheat with some grapefruit.
Overall: Easy drinking beer if you like wheat beers. Nothing is in your face. It taste like it has more sugar in it. I think its a little heavy on the wheat side from most people. Im not sure why as its using the same amount as the other 100% wheat beers. Maybe the centennial hop can cut the wheat?
Tasting 2
Color: Golden. Looks like 2-Row with some C20 or 40
Smell: Citrus floral with a hint of wheat
Taste: Wheat citrus mixing with the floral.
Overall: A different tasting wheat. I have not tasted a wheat like this b/4. Good homebrew
Tasting 3
Color: Golden clear
Smell: Big wheat citrus with some sweetness. Orange citrus
Taste: Older Wheat taste. Grapefruit citrus in the taste with some sweetness. After taste is more orange citrus
Overall: The sweetness is almost Maris Otter like. I do like the orange sweetness in this.
