Rye IPA Batch 4 Motueka Chinook Citra
Over the last 2 or 3 years I have had some Rye IPA craft beers. I have wanted to make make one to see what I could do with this style of beer. I do like the spice you get from Rye. I was not sure how Chinook would do in a beer like this as I make an all Chinook IPA and I really do not get a spice taste. I did make a brew day overview video just to show you how I make my small batches for testing you can check that out here.
For my forth Rye IPA all grain batch I used the following recipe
2 LBS 1 oz 2-Row
5.5 oz White Wheat
5.5 oz Rye Malt
3.7 oz Flaked Rye
.28 oz Motueka @ 60 mins
.28 oz Motueka @ 5 mins
.28 oz Chinook @ 5 mins
US-05 Yeast was used
.24 oz Motueka Dry Hop 7 Days
.12 oz Chinook Dry Hop 7 Days
.12 oz Citra Dry Hop 7 Days
Tasting 1
Color: Hazy orange yellow.
Smell: Peach Apricot fruitiness. Some wheat. Almost like a wheat peach
Taste: Apricot spice fruit. Lots of bitterness in this one.
Overall: Im not sure why but I keep thinking this is a wheat beer. Maybe the Motueka is bring out the wheat in this beer.
Tasting 2
Color: Golden Yellow light haze
Smell: Melon fruit malt. Melon has to be from the Motueka
Taste: Malt big spice. Im getting a taste that Im not sure what it is. I think its Motueka
Overall: I need to use Motueka more as Im not sure what its doing to this beer. It doesnt taste like the other ones in this series.
