The plastic Big Mouth Bubbler is an alternative to the glass carboy as a lot has changed over the last 10 years. Plastic can now be used with less scratches. The one that I have and that's in the product preview and review is the old one. The new Big Mouth Bubbler has male threads - the one I have has female threads that screw on to the male threads of the carboy. From what I have read and from comments on the video the new Big Mouth Bubbler has some issues and you shouldn't buy it. The down fall to glass is it can shatter - I have had this happen to me that's why I purchased a plastic one. Unless your going to store beer in secondary for a long time(over 6 months) I would say go with plastic. You can get 3 or 4 plastic buckets for the cost of a glass carboy.
