Cascade Centennial FWH
This is beer 8 in our 2 hop series. This takes the base Cascade Centennial and moves the 60 min hop addition to smash out. In first wort hopping you want to take the late hop additions and use them in the mash out. I wanted to try it both ways to see what we get out of them. In later batches we will use the late addition hops but for beer 8 and 9 we are going to use the 60 min additions. Here is the recipe I used. This was for a 1.25 gallons going into the carboy.
2 LBS 4 oz 2-Row
.25 oz Cascade FHW
.25 oz Centennial 10 mins
.25 oz Cascade 5 mins
.25 oz of both 3 days into fermentation
US-05 Yeast
Color: Golden yellow. Some hazy
Smell: floral citrus with some malt sweetness. I was thinking we would get more out of the smell. Im thinking im getting more malt out of this one
Taste: Citrus and floral from start to finish. The bitterness taste big. Smooth with some sweet malt. Flavors are smooth and nice. I think the FWH helped round out the flavors
Overall: Good beer. The FWH did help round out the flavors in this beer.
Tasting 3
I did do a second tasting but that was with all 20 of them.
Color: Golden Yellow
Smell: Citrus grapefruit bitterness. Maybe a hint of bitterness and sweetness.
Taste: Citrus floral bitterness. A lot more bitterness in the after taste with some citrus
Overall: A good beer. Over time the bitterness is kicking up in most of the older beers. This is not one that I would let sit for months b/4 drinking.
Tasting 4
Color: Dirty golden yellow. Some haze in this one
Smell: Lemon citrus. Some light bread and a hint of floral
Taste: Big floral with a hint of floral. Very smooth homebrew
Overall: You are getting a different smell than I was thinking you would get. I was thinking we would get more floral out of this one as we are using more Cascade than Centennial. A little honey water might we a sign that this is getting older. If you like floral I think you will like this one.
