SMaSH Beer Golden Promise With Citra Hops

Malt: Golden Promise 2 LBs 4 oz

Hops: Citra .39 oz 30 mins

Hops: Citra .29 oz 5 mins

Yeast: US-05

I had some golden Promise that was over 2 years old. Sealed in the bag but 2 years old. I wanted to make some batches using older malts just to see what would happen. Post boil gravity was right on at 1.049. I did not hit final gravity, it ended up at like 1.032. This homebrew ended up being 3.49% ABV. Why was that? Could it have been the old malt? I dont think it was as post boil gravity was right one. I think this tells me that the sugar is still in the grain. Temp was not an issue I dont think as this homebrew was in the same place as all my other ones. I think its the yeast! I pitched too little and it needed more. We will find out with brews 23-1 to 23-5.

First tasting notes. Sweet toasted malt with some citrus and bitterness. I think the sweetness is from the sugars left in the beer. Overall not a bad one but ABV needs to be higher. You can check out the first review here
